OUR CHRISTMAS IN FINLAND

Saimme molemmat lomaa jouluviikolla, joten lensimme Suomeen viettämään sitä perheidemme kanssa

We both got to keep holiday on Christmas week, so we flew to Finland to spend it with our families.

Suomessa meitä odottikin oikea talven ihmemaa...lunta!

In Finland there was a real winter wonderland excpecting us..snow!

Päätin että haluan tehdä lumilyhdyn. Pakkasta oli noin -10, joten se ei ollut ihan helppo tehtävä. Mutta ne jotka minut tuntee, tietää että jos päätän jotain niin toteutan sen tavalla tai toisella...

I decided that i want to make a lantern out of snowballs, but the temperature was around -10 C, so it was not an easy task. But those who know me, know also that if I decide to do something, I usually make it happen one way or another...

Sisälle kannettu lumi alkoi muotoutua lumipalloiksi..

The snow that had been carried inside for a while started to form as snowballs...

We made our traditional visit to the graveyard to light candlers to those who are no longer with us

We went to sauna every evening.!

CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN GRAZ

Graz pukeutui jouluun ihanilla valoilla ja koristeilla. Rakastan joulutoreja, erityísesti vanhan kaupungin kapeilla kujilla. Täällä todella pääsee virittäytymään joulutunnelmaan!

The city of Graz is dressed up with such a lovely lights and decorations. I just love the Christmas markets and the athmosphere, especially in the narrow streets of the old town. It really gets you in the Christmas mood!

Erityisesti pidän keskustorin myyntikojuista, ne on niin kauniisti koristeltuja,

niissä myydään kaikenlaisia herkkuja ja lahjatavaroita.

I especially like the Christmas huts at Hauptplatz, they are so beautifully decorated… selling all kinds of treats and handicrafts:

The company of friends and a mug of glühwein makes you feel warm inside <3

Grazilla on oma erikoisuutensa Landhausin sisäpihalla, jäästä tehty Jeesuksen syntymäkuvaelma. Neitsyt Maria pitää sylissään Jeesus-lasta Joosefin seisoessa vieressä. Myös kolme kuningasta lahjoineen ovat ympärillä. Veistos, valot ja kaunis ympäristö luovat upean tunnelman! Tunnettu jäänveistäjä Kimmo Frosti (HÄN ON MUUTEN SUOMALAINEN!!) ja hänen kansainvälinen jäänveistotiiminsä loivat tämän upean veistoksen 50 tonnista jäätä

Graz has its own specialty in the Landhaus courtyard, a nativity scene made of ice . It depicts the Virgin Mary cradling the baby Jesus, while Joseph looks on. The Three Kings are shown bearing gifts. The sculpture, lights and the beautiful surroundings come together with a magnificent atmosphere! The well-known ice sculptor Kimmo Frosti (HE´S FINNISH BY THE WAY!!) and his international ice-sculpting team created this magical Christmas nativity scene with about 50 tons of ice:

KRAMPUSLAUF

Täällä onkin vähän järeämmät keinot käytössä lasten pelotteluun näin joulun alla. Jouluhirviöt, Krampukset vievät legendan mukaan tuhmat lapset selkäsäkissä mennessään ja antavat risuja, kun taas Pyhä Nikolaus palkitsee kiltit lapset lahjoilla. Grazin keskustassa järjestettiin 30.11 Krampuskulkue, jossa näitä hirviöitä pääsi näkemään. Joissain paikoissa nämä Krampuslauf tapahtumat ovat kuulemma aika hurjiakin, viinapäissään olevat hirviöt terrorisoivat kaupunkia ja saavat vahinkoakin aikaan ja yleisö ottaa osaa tapahtumiin omalla vastuulla. Nämä Grazin hirviöt kuitenkin pelottelivat meitä valvotuissa oloshteissa ;)

Here they use a bit stronger means to scare kids to behave good before Christmas. A Legend tells that Christmas monsters which are called Krampus, take naughty kids away in their backsacks, when the “good guy” St Nikolaus rewards nice kids with presents. We saw these monsters at “Krampuslauf” in the centre of Graz on 30th November. At some places these Krampuslauf events can be quite wild, when drunken monsters terrorise the city and cause troubles. The audience is advised to take part of this by their own responsibility. The monsters that we saw were in controlled conditions ;)

Olihan noi aika hurjan näköisiä kavereita. Jos mut olis viety lapsena katsomaan tuollaisia, niin olisin varmaan saanut siitä ikuiset traumat. Mutta olihan tuota ihan hauska käydä katsomassa, en ollut tuollaisesta kuullut koskaan aiemmin.

I have to say they looked quite wild. If I had seen that kind of stuff as a child, I would have probably had lifelong traumas. But it was fun to see because it was something totally new to me.
